Munawwar Farooqui was born on 28 January 1992 in a Muslim family in Junagadh, a city in Gujarat. People also fondly call Munnavar as Munna. Munavvar’s father’s name is Iqbal Farooqui. he is a driver, and his mother is a housewife.

Munavvar’s sister’s name is Shabana. Munawwar Farooqui was married at a young age and has been living separately from his wife for the last one and a half years. He also has a child.

His family moved to Mumbai after his home was destroyed during the communal riots in Gujarat in 2002, and his mother died soon after when he was 13.

In 2021, a comedy video was made on YouTube insulting Hindu deities. After this, Hindu organizations had filed an FIR against him. Madhya Pradesh Police immediately arrested him on charges of insulting Hindu deities.

Then, the Sessions Court rejected Farooqui’s bail plea. They then filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, with the Indore bench considering the evidence gathered so far that they had “deliberately and intentionally hurt the religious sentiments of a section of the citizens of India”.

After this, on the appeal of Farooqui, the Supreme Court granted interim bail on February 5, 2021.
